Intro to the Bible: Exploring the Torah
This is a course offering of the New Creation School. Module 2 of 6. Meetings: SUN Feb 21, 28, Mar 7, 14, 21, 28 Required Text: Jeffery Geoghegan and Michael Homan, The Bible for Dummies (Wiley Publishing, 2003); A Study Bible (preferably New Revised Standard Version, New International Version/TodayÃÂ's New International Version, New English Translation, New American Standard Bible, or the Amplified Bible). Additional Info: Assigned readings with discussion as a group. Ninety percent of Americans own a copy of the Bible, and while itÃÂ's the most widely read book, itÃÂ's also the least understood. Regardless of your religion, understanding the Bible brings much of Western art, literature, and public discourse into greater focusÃÂ-from Leonardo da VinciÃÂ's ÃÂ"Last SupperÃÂ" painting to the Wachowski brothersÃÂ' The Matrix movies. People have historically turned to religion to deal with tragedy and change, and with the right insight, the Bible can be an accessible, helpful guide to lifeÃÂ's big questions. This course is open to people of all faiths, as well as those who donÃÂ't practice any particular religion, by providing interfaith coverage of the entire Bible and the often fascinating background information that makes the Bible come alive.
